The THEMATIC sub-section focuses on different aspects of water-related research, so that users can go directly to topics that are of interest to them. Examples of topics covered include water use in the agricultural sector, sanitation and health, gender aspects of water use and management, water in urban areas, and water sharing.

The INSTITUTIONAL sub-section lists institutions engaged in water and livelihoods research, organized by type such as research organisations, funding organisations, NGOs and private consultancies.

The REGIONAL sub-section provides links to research organisations and NGOs working on water issues in developing and under-developed countries, arranged by geographical location.
